How to Become a Volunteer
The minimum age for volunteers is 16 years except in special cases where school groups come for a special event or occasion. We encourage high school and college community service and Service Learning applicants. Your service as a volunteer will help us provide the best possible care for our residents. After completion of a volunteer application, all applicants are interviewed to assess interest and review volunteer requirements. Rest assured that the time and talents you volunteer enhance the quality of life of our residents.
Niagara Lutheran Health System volunteer activities are coordinated through our Community Relations Coordinator, Vivian Cosentino. She can be reached at (716) 886-4377, ext. 365 or via e-mail at volunteer@NiagaraLutheran.org.

Niagara Lutheran Health System Guild
In 1958, a dedicated group of volunteers and others formed the Niagara Lutheran Home Guild, which is actively committed to enhancing the lives of our residents. The Guild conducts fundraisers, like the Spring and Fall Fun Fairs at Niagara Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center, and gives people who aren't able to come to the facilities the opportunity to help in other ways. The Guild operates under a set of by-laws and a 12-member executive board.
A monthly newsletter, mailed out to about 1,350 Guild members currently, is the Guild's primary means of communicating. Each of the eight newsletters mailed out during the course of a year offers interesting information such as:
- An inspirational article
- News from Jurgen Arndt, President/CEO of the Niagara Lutheran Health System
- News from the Guild president
- Worship service schedule for each NLHS affiliate
- A list of resident birthdays
- Fundraising news and events announcements
- Special requests from the affiliates for useful items for residents, such as Bingo prizes, plants and
activities to enhance their living quarters or help with transporting on special trips, such as the zoo, a ball game, etc.
- Volunteer opportunities and communications from the Health System's Community Relations Coordinator
Guild Meetings are scheduled for the third Thursday of almost every month at 11:30 a.m. at one of the NLHS affiliates for lunch, to discuss and make decisions about important matters, and to enjoy an interesting program. There is a special luncheon/fund raiser in June and our Christmas Luncheon and fundraiser is always the 2nd Thursday in December. Guests are always welcome!
