When is the Right Time to Start Looking for Retirement Living Options?
by admin on January 31st, 2012
There is never a wrong time to start looking for retirement living options. Planning ahead is always best.
You will probably be looking at independent living (for those looking to simplify their lives), assisted living (for those in need of assistance with personal care and medication management), or skilled nursing care (for those in need of 24-hour care).
Be aware that many communities and facilities have waiting lists and, in a crisis situation, your options are limited. That’s why it is a good idea to make any kind of move while you are still in control of the situation. A good choice is a full-service retirement community like The GreenFields in Lancaster where you can move into independent living knowing that, as your needs change, you have priority access to the other levels of care on campus.
Remember:
- Be proactive; do your research early.
- If in the hospital or rehab, talk to the social worker or discharge planner.
- Call for information even if the community has a waiting list.
- Don’t wait for a crisis; make a decision while it is still your decision to make.
